Cancer charity boosts appeal
At the recent annual meeting of Macmillan Cancer Relief, in Darlington, the treasurer announced that £9,600 had been presented to the charity's Durham appeal last year. Funds are being raised to improve facilities across County Durham. All fund-raising by the Darlington committee this year will go towards the appeal.
ART EXHIBITION: Artist Denise Macgregor will be displaying her work next month at Pizza Express, in Skinnergate. She will launch the paintings on Monday, March 4 with a preview evening.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED: The Cockerton and Branksome Living Enterprise Ltd (Cable) is looking for volunteers to get involved with the charity. The group works in Branksome offering guidance and training for residents. Anyone interested in helping is asked to call (01325) 354084.
ROAD WORKS: Two-way traffic lights have been installed on Haughton Road for ten weeks while Transco carries out maintenance work. Lights have also been put up on the junction of East Mount Road and Montrose Street for one week while the company completes work.
CHARITY UPDATE: Stephanie Dilnot of the British Heart Foundation will be giving an update of the organisation's work at Darlington's Dolphin Centre on March 19, at 7.30pm.
CAR DAMAGED: A green VW Polo had £250-worth of damage caused to it when its bodywork was scratched down one side while it was parked in Bruce Road, Newton Aycliffe, between 6.10pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
CHARITY AUCTION: A charity auction and raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief will be held in Newton Aycliffe Working Men's Club on Wednesday, March 20, from 6.30pm. Tickets, priced £1.50, are available from behind the bar or at the door.
New members: The 3rd Newton Aycliffe Rainbow Guides and Brownies are looking for new members. Rainbows, aged between five and seven, meet on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm in St Clare's Church vestry and Brownies, aged seven to 11, meet on Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm in the church hall.
