THE region's largest hospital trust has been praised for its ability to spot things that could go wrong.

But there is concern that patients who have difficulty feeding themselves may not always get the help they need.

Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust's policy of carrying our regular reviews of each department, to spot potential risks and to ensure staff are fully trained, is highlighted in a report from the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI).

However, a CHI spokesman said: "There are concerns that some patients who have difficulty feeding themselves may not always receive the assistance they need. The trust states that it is taking steps to address this problem."

The trust is producing an action plan in response to the report.
