Guides appeal for members
The 3rd Newton Aycliffe Rainbow Guides and Brownies are looking for new members. Rainbows, aged between five and seven, meet on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm in St Clare's Church vestry and Brownies, aged seven to 11, meet on Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm in the church hall. COUNCIL MEETING: A meeting of Great Aycliffe Town Council's recreation committee will be held today in the council offices, School Aycliffe Lane, Newton Aycliffe, from 7.15pm.
GOODS STOLEN: A shoplifter stole goods worth £43 from Bells Stores in the Parsons Centre, Scott Place, Newton Aycliffe, between 6.30pm and 7pm on Saturday.
CAR DAMAGED: A green VW Polo had £250-worth of damage caused to it when its bodywork was scratched down one side while it was parked in Bruce Road, Newton Aycliffe, between 6.10pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
POTS TAKEN: A green glazed plant pot, 18 inches in diameter and containing a palm tree, was stolen from The Gables, Sedgefield, in the early hours of Saturday morning. A 12-inch pot containing green shrubs was also taken.
TYRES SLASHED: All four tyres on a red Ford Escort were slashed between 9.30pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday in St Catherine's Close, Fishburn.
MACHINES DAMAGED: About £40-worth of damage was caused to two toy vending machines in Ferryhill Leisure Centre, between 9.30pm and 10pm, on Saturday.
MAYOR'S SUPPER: A charity supper dance for the Mayor of Sedgefield borough, Councillor Andy Gray, raised £750 for his chosen charities, the North of England Children's Cancer Research Fund and the Pioneering Care Partnership in Newton Aycliffe.
CHARITY AUCTION: A charity auction and raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief will be held in Newton Aycliffe Working Men's Club on Wednesday, March 20, from 6.30pm. Tickets, priced £1.50, are available from behind the bar or at the door.
Scrutiny committee: Sedgefield Borough Council's scrutiny committee, covering culture, recreation and housing, meets today in the council offices at Green Lane, Spennymoor, from 10am.
RESIDENTS' Association: Chilton West Residents' Association meets today at 7.15pm in Chilton and Windlestone WMC
