A Redcar and Cleveland Borough councillor has been going the extra mile to ensure the safety of some of the older residents of his constituency.
Coun Mark Hannon, who represents the Kirkleatham ward, distributed a number of personal attack alarms for elderly and vulnerable people living in his part of Redcar at a regular ward surgery at the Roseberry Square Library.
The initiative is being run at councillors' ward surgeries across the borough because, according to Coun Hannon, community safety is one of the authority's chief concerns.
"This is a step in the right direction and it was pretty good," he said. "It gives people peace of mind.
"I will be doing it again in about a month's time and we will be targeting areas where there are congregations of elderly people living."
