A MAN'S home was burgled twice in a week while he was in bed, a court was told yesterday.
When David Puckrin, 45, came face to face with the burglar on the second occasion, the intruder head-butted him.
Teenage drug addict Andrew McRoy was found guilty by a jury and was sent to a young offenders' institution for two years.
The 18-year-old, of Spencer Road, Teesville, denied the burglary in South Bank last May.
Christine Egerton, defending, said that McRoy had made great efforts to wean himself off drugs after first using cannabis at 14 and heroin at 16.
But Judge John Walford said at Teesside Crown Court: "It is an appalling state of affairs if people can't feel safe in their own homes.
"It follows from that statement that people who break into these homes, particularly at night, in circumstances where the householder has to confront the burglar, that the courts have to take burglary seriously."
