A NIGHTCLUB-style atmosphere will be created at a theatre next month.
For the first time, Durham's Gala theatre will be converted into a flat-floor venue and have its seats replaced with cabaret tables and chairs.
The alterations are being made to accommodate Hold On, a musical featuring the soul songs of Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Earth Wind and Fire, Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill.
It tells the story of a man, four women and a seven-piece band, all on the verge of success, being thwarted by an arch rival.
Among the songs featured are Soul Man, originally by Sam and Dave, Respect, by Aretha Franklin and Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind and Fire.
A theatre spokesman said: "There will be more than adequate room to boogie along with the cast - and, with a songs of this calibre, we defy you to stay in your seat."
The show runs from Tuesday until Saturday, March 16, with shows starting at 7.30pm Mondays to Thursdays, 6pm on Fridays and 9pm on Saturdays.
