A MAN who left the daughter of former Middlesbrough football manager Bryan Robson scarred for life was jailed for three months yesterday.

Mark Bregazzi, 20, must also pay £1,000 compensation to Claire Louise Robson for injuries inflicted with a head-butt in a late-night confrontation outside a Durham City taxi office.

Durham magistrates heard that Bregazzi carried out the assault after making a disparaging remark about her father, the former England and Manchester United captain, over his time in charge at Middlesbrough.

Miss Robson pushed him away and he responded by delivering the blow which resulted in her being detained overnight in hospital, where she was given ten stitches to a 4cm laceration across her forehead.

Bregazzi, an apprentice plasterer, of Dominion Road, Brandon, near Durham, admitted at an earlier hearing to causing her grievous bodily harm.

He returned for sentence yesterday, when the court was told Miss Robson had undergone examination by a plastic surgeon since the attack.

The consultant's report, read to the court, said that, despite receiving treatment, the scar "will, unfortunately, remain with her for the rest of her life".

In a statement also read to the court, Miss Robson described the attack as a "traumatic experience", the full effect of which, she said, had only really hit her days after the incident.

She said she has suffered psychologically and is now reluctant to go out in public in case anyone recognises her.

"I'm always aware of people around me when doors open," she said.

John Grierson, for Bregazzi, said his client's judgement had been affected by the amount he had drunk, but maintained he had used his head merely to push away Miss Robson.

He said that due to the fame of his victim and the publicity the case has generated, he had received threats from "supporters of the other team".

Mr Grierson said that Bragazzi, who had no previous convictions, would now lose his job.

Jailing him, magistrates' chairman Kevin Storey said the bench totally disregarded the high-profile nature of the victim in reaching their decision.

A further hearing will be staged on Bregazzi's release to decide how he can meet the compensation award.
