A Consett barman has won the trip of a lifetime to Cyprus - courtesy of the British Army.
Andrew Gailes, of Consett, is among ten winners from the North-East and Yorkshire who took part in a competition during Operation Northern Spirit - the Army's recruiting campaign. Andrew, 18, battled his way through a competition held at the Army Careers Fair in the Dolphin Centre, Darlington. He was selected to compete against 19 others at a final selection day at York.
The competitors undertook both physical and mental challenges including scaling a climbing wall and problem solving tasks.
"The competition has been great fun and I am delighted to be going to Cyprus - it will be a totally new experience," said Andrew, whose parents John and Eileen also live in Consett
