MORE than 600 call centre vacancies were advertised at a jobs fair yesterday.
East Durham and Houghall Community College, in Peterlee, County Durham, was the venue for the free event, organised by the Employment Service in partnership with Peterlee employers and other organisations.
As well as finding out about full and part-time jobs, visitors received advice from Peterlee JobCentre staff, Easington Action Team for Jobs, the Disability Service and lone parent advisors.
A free prize draw offered the chance to win a signed football provided by Sunderland Football Club and compact discs from Sun FM.
Anne Smith, recruitment consultant at Peterlee JobCentre, said: "With so many jobs available, this was a great opportunity for anybody interested in working in the ever-expanding call centre sector.
"People could also get advice and information on benefits to show how much better off they could be working."
