STAFF at English Heritage sites across the country have voted for strike action in a dispute over pay.
Almost 70 per cent of staff, members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), voted to strike after management imposed a pay offer of 3.5 per cent, which nine out of ten members had previously rejected.
The proposed action threatens to close down English Heritage sites across the region, including Lindisfarne and Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, Barnard Castle and Finchale Priory in County Durham, Fountains Abbey and York's Clifford Tower in North Yorkshire and Gisborough Priory on Teesside.
Members of PCS at English Heritage sites will hold a one-day strike on Friday, March 8. Office-based members of PCS and Prospect, who have also voted for strike action, will hold a one-day strike on Monday, March 11.
