A LONG-held dream has taken a step closer to becoming reality for youngsters in the Northallerton area.
Members of Hambleton District Council's cabinet have approved in principle the development of land by the Stone Cross leisure centre into a skateboard park.
They have also approved a grant of £5,000 from a £20,000 fund set aside to help provide such facilities.
It is hoped that funding for the rest of the £76,000 scheme will come from local fundraising, grant aid and commercial sponsorship.
The land, jointly owned by Allertonshire School and the council, has been picked as the most suitable location by a steering group of leading figures from local groups.
Other projects to provide skateboard parks are under way in the Hambleton area. It is hoped sites will be found in Thirsk, Stokesley and Bedale.
