Spennymoor United have been voted the UniBond League First Division Team of the Month for the second month in succession. Moors have yet to lose a game under new manager Tony Lee, and since he was appointed, they have moved from the fringe of the relegation battle to realistic candidates for a play off spot. And since Moors have yet to receive their January award, they will receive two awards together at tomorrow's home game with Matlock.
The top two in the First Division are automatically promoted, with the next three clubs playing off with the third bottom club in the Premier Division.
The Durham Challenge Cup final between Billingham Town and Bishop Auckland has been arranged for Good Friday, March 29th at Durham City, kick off 11am. Town will be making their first appearance in the final for over a decade, while Bishops won the competition by beating Brandon last year.
Former Middlesbrough midfielder Paul Proudlock, who signed for Bishops last week, has told manager Alan Shoulder that he wants to miss the away game at his old club Gateshead on March 20. Proudlock was Gateshead manager until he resigned following the shock 1-0 defeat by Billingahm Town in the Durham Challenge Cup semi final last month. Spennymoor United have signed Marske centre half Michael Robson, who has been putting in some good performances for the Northern League side this season.
Moors signed two players from Marske last summer, but were found to be guilty of an illegal approach, and the two players concerned returned to Marske.tby Town have finally completed the signing of Ragiab El Mgaryef, a libyan Under 21 international. As reported in Local Heroes last month, the player, who is related to Libyan president Colonel Gaddafi, walked into Middlesbrough's training ground and met Whitby striker Graham Robinson, who persuaded him to come training at the Turnbull Ground.
Whitby have now received international clearance for the player.
