DERELICT outbuildings are to be demolished in an east Cleveland village to make way for a house.
The Wilton Village scheme follows last year's approval for a similar application in the conservation area, even though the application went against the Local Plan.
It was felt new homes would enhance the village more than derelict old buildings.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's planning committee agreed the scheme for similar reasons.
But the plan also involves the removal of a number of trees from a wooded area.
Nearly 50 residents objected, amid concerns about the loss of the trees, the proximity of the buildings to existing properties and traffic problems. Planning officer Doreen Mealing said: "These buildings do nothing to enhance the conservation area.
"This scheme would override policy, but would improve the whole area."
Ward councillor Ivy Cole warned that water from an often fast-flowing stream could cause problems and that Wilton Lane was already busy with traffic.
Councillor Steve Kay said: "People tend to panic when such applications come in for nice villages like this, but often they are pleased when they see the end result."
