TWO dramatic late goals sent Durham and Whitley Bay into the semi finals of the FA Carlsberg Vase - and now both teams are hoping to avoid each other in today's draw.
Durham overcame Wroxham with a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time from Micky Taylor, to seal a 2-1 win and spark scenes of delight at New Ferens Park.
And at virtually the same time just over the Pennines in Clitheroe, Whitley Bay's Steve Locker grabbed the winner four minutes into stoppage time.
Durham City boss Brian Honour said: "We couldn't have left it any later to score in such dramatic circumstances.
"It was incredible, because Micky has late in the game in earlier rounds as well.
"But we shouldn't have had to leave it so late, because in the first half we had four or five very good chances, and when the score was 1-1, we had a couple again.
"I warned the players about what might happen at half-time, because Wroxham got a lift and we had to withstand some pressure in the second half.
"We have got two bites of the cherry now to get into the final."
Durham started the game well, and took the lead after just six minutes when he headed his 38th goal of the season from Craig Lake's cross.
They had further chances to increase their lead with Ludlow and Stuart Irvine both being denied, and Wroxham hit back after 71 minutes when Russell Stock scored in a goalmouth scramble. And a few minutes later, Durham keeper Marc Riches pulled off a great save to keep his side in the game.
Durham finished the stronger side, and should have won the game with five minutes left, when Gary Bennett missed a great chance.
But that was all forgotten deep into stoppage time, when Stuart Irvine was tripped, and substitute Taylor coolly tucked in the penalty.
Whitley Bay's excellent away record came up trumps when they triumphed at Clitheroe.
Just like Durham, they got off to a great start after three minutes when Ian Chandler headed in a free kick from Kevin Walton, and they should have gone further ahead when Jon Sunderland fired over after dribbling through the Clitheroe defence.
However, Clitheroe improved, and Whitley keeper John Caffrey pulled off two good saves.
Whitley should have given themselves some breathing space, but Walton's penalty for a foul on Andy Bowes was saved, and they were pegged back when Lee Sculther headed in from a corner. In a frantic finish, defender Steve Locker headed the winner from a Walton free kick.
Manager Andy Gowens said: "Full credit to the players, because they did everything we asked of them, especially on the pitch in the state it was in.
"It will be nice to avoid Durham, but everybody is looking forward to the biggest day for the club in over ten years.
"We couldn't have timed the winner better - they kicked off again, and the referee blew his whistle for full-time. I'm delighted for a lot of people behind the scenes at the club."
The two Northern League clubs will be in the hat with two from the Jewson Eastern League.
Sudbury, who are top of that league, won at Lewes, the conquerors of Tow Law, while Tiptree won at Burgess Hill Town.
The draw is due to be made at lunchtime, and before it Esh Winning are due to collect an award for being one of the teams of the round earlier in the competition.
