CHURCHGOERS are trying to shed new light on the problems facing the countryside. A "plough light" has been placed in the porch of the Masham Methodist Church, and will remain lit until September's harvest festival. The idea is that it will act as a constant reminder that help and support are still needed by people who live in the countryside. The minister, the Reverend Elizabeth Clark, above, said the practice dated back to medieval times and it had been decided to revive it because of the effects that foot-and-mouth disease and other issues were having.
