LOCAL people are being asked to contribute to the revamp of their 27-year-old leisure centre by giving it a new name.
A £400,000 overhaul of the Hambleton Leisure Centre, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, will begin in the summer, turning it into a major arts venue for the district.
The work will include tiered seating, a new wooden floor, new roof, better meeting facilities and improved disabled access.
To go with its new image, people are being asked to come up with suggestions for a new name for the centre, on Bullamoor Road.
Council leader June Imeson said: "We want to attract new users and market the centre in new ways."
The complex will continue to be used by community groups, but will also be suited to small conferences, workshops and arts events.
