Wildlife takes centre stage
Bugs, spiders, snakes and birds of prey, and bats, will be displayed by Michael Mann, Eddie and Pat Bell, and members of Lanchester Wildlife Group, on Saturday, between 10am and 3pm, at Lanchester Community Centre. Admission costs £1, concessions 50p.
Proceeds will go to Lanchester Parklife, the organisation that is trying to build a play park in the village.
Advice sessions: Durham Citizens' Advice Bureau is holding advice sessions on Monday between 10.30am and 11.30am in Bearpark Community Association; on Tuesday in Bowburn Community Centre, from 11am to noon; next Wednesday in Sherburn Hill Community Centre between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, and in Brandon Community Hall between 11am and noon on Thursday, March 14.
CHARITY SALE: Durham's branch of the National Childbirth Trust will hold a nearly-new sale of children's and baby's clothing and equipment on Saturday, March 18, between 10am and noon, in St Aidan's Church hall, Framwellgate Moor.
NEW HOME: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for a detached house, garage and vehicle access to be built at Finchale Road, Durham.
Donor dates: People can give blood at donor sessions being held today at All Saints Church, Carr House Drive, Newton Hall, Durham, between 3pm and 7pm, and tomorrow at Boldon Community Centre, New Road, Boldon Colliery, also between 3pm and 7pm.

POOL CLOSED: Gateshead Leisure Centre swimming pool has closed for four weeks to enable major improvements to be carried out. The pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 25.
CANCER MEETING: Coping with Cancer (North East) Sunderland and District Group meets today, at the Education and Training Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital, Chester Road, Sunderland, at 6.30pm.
