Police recover stolen jewellery
CLEVELAND police are hoping to reunite stolen jewellery with its owner or owners. Following a tip-off, officers visited a pawnbroker's shop in Stockton and recovered a gold ring shaped in the letters DAD, a gold buckle ring and a small crucifix and chain.
Anyone who thinks the items may be theirs is asked to contact Detective Constable Dave Harrison on (01642) 302243.
BRIGHT FUTURE: The future is looking brighter for four former Corus workers who joined a pioneering scheme to retrain them for careers in the gas industry. Keith Gellaty, Chris Singer, Ronny McKay and Bobby Logue have secured 24-week work placements with H&B Heating and Plumbing, in Middlesbrough. Each of them will secure employment with the firm after the training period.
FORUM MEETING: The annual meeting of the Kirkleatham Community Forum takes place on Monday at Green Gates Primary School, in Kielder Close, with refreshments at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. After the meeting, the Top Lakes Residents' Association will give a presentation on a proposed play park on a site near the school.
COMMUNITY AID: Members of Teesside's Indian community have raised more than £20,000 for victims of last year's earthquake in Gujarat. The Hindu Cultural Society, in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, handed over the cash on Sunday.
SCHEME END: Libraries in the borough of Stockton are nearing the end of their Sunday opening pilot scheme.The three libraries involved - Yarm, Roseberry, in Billingham, and Thornaby - will continue to open on Sundays, from 11am to 4pm, until March 24.
VIKING WEEKEND: Kirkleatham Hall Museum hosts a Viking Crafts and Combat event this weekend, from 11am until 4pm both days. Events will feature the re-enactment group, Anmod Dracan. For further details call (01642) 479500.
