SPECIAL school students and comprehensive school pupils came together for a joint activity day yesterday.
About 40 pupils from Whitworth Special School, in Spennymoor, and 40 from Parkside School, Willington, near Bishop Auckland, split into groups for the assignment.
They were divided into five groups, with each being given an activity challenge to complete.
Three groups were based at Parkside and a further two worked at Whitworth. One group had to design and make kites which were tested in the afternoon.
Another made a mural with acrylic paint, helped by artist Barry Ormsby, which will provide a permanent work of art to be shared between the two schools.
An eight-legged monster octopus was created using willow. Drama workshops and storytelling made the day complete.
