A SPECIAL service is being staged at a tiny Methodist chapel as a thank you to good Samaritans, who raised £5,000 to restore vandalised stained glass windows
The Newcastle-based James Knott Trust gave £1,000 and Wear Valley District Council £600 to help to repair the damaged windows at Wooley Terrace Chapel, in Stanley, Crook.
But appeal organisers said that the bulk of the cash came from "very generous local people" who organised coffee mornings and other events.
Not all the ten stained glass windows were vandalised, but they were all in need of repair. The work was carried out by a company of Gateshead glass-makers.
A re-dedication service is being held at the chapel on Sunday, March 17, at 2.30pm.
It is hoped all those who supported the window appeal will attend the service
