PUPILS leave Askrigg School with above national average achievement in English, maths and science, according to a team of Government inspectors.
Ofsted inspectors who visited the school in November, report that the team "agrees with parents' overwhelmingly positive views about all aspects of the school and their confidence in the school".
The inspectors found a "friendly, family atmosphere" where relationships are good and parents and governors played an active and supportive role. Links with parents were seen as a clear strength.
The report also praised the leadership of the headteacher and the contribution made by other teachers to the school's clear sense of purpose and pupils' achievements.
The quality of teaching was good, with excellence in the areas of English, maths and music. Information technology and the creative arts were particular strengths.
Children with special educational needs and gifted youngsters were identified and provided with good quality teaching.
Susan Sweet, headteacher, said: "The whole school community is delighted by the inspectors' findings.
"There are recommendations for action in the report centring around provision for foundation stage. Plans are already under way to alter the internal accommodation to provide a well-resourced area specifically for our youngest pupils."
