Ten people including a policeman have been rushed to hospital and a busy city centre closed after a chemical spill this afternoon.
Three fire appliances were called to the Durham University Student Union building in New Elvet, Durham City.
Fire chiefs said a corrosive chemical had leaked from packaging delivered earlier in the day.
A policeman has been taken to hospital after inhaling the fumes and fire service personnel are dealing with the incident.
