Retired teacher is new mayor
SCARBOROUGH'S new Mayor is to be Councillor Sheila Kettlewell, a retired deputy headteacher. Miss Kettlewell, an independent member of the borough council represents the Scalby ward. She beat Labour's candidate, the current deputy mayor Councillor Eileen Vickers, by six votes. The new deputy mayor will be Conservative member Councillor Freda Coultas of Filey. They will start their new roles in May.
SKATE PARK: The £122,000 Clarence Skateboard Park, in Scarborough, will be opened by the resort's mayor, Lucy Haycock, on Saturday at 10am.
PATH CLOSURE: Pedestrians in Northallerton are being warned about the temporary closure of the access linking Colstan Road and Millfield Avenue for two days from Thursday, March 14. Drain maintenance work will be carried out.
EASTER FUN: Kiplin Hall near Scorton, Richmond, is hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza from March 29 to April 1. There will be a wide variety of Easter-themed activities from 2pm to 5pm daily. Normal admission charges apply.
SPRING SHOW: Don't Dress for Dinner, a comedy by Marc Camoletti, will be the spring production of the Bedale and District Amateur Dramatic Society. CROSSING CLOSURE: Bootham level crossing, on the B1363 Wigginton Road, York, will be temporarily closed to traffic from 10.30pm on Sunday to allow track renewal to take place.
HELP SOUGHT: Volunteers are needed by a museum. Anyone with an hour or two to spare every week could be invaluable to the Richmondshire Museum on Richmond's Ryders Wynd. For details call (01748) 825239.
COUNTRY NIGHT: Organisers of country and western nights at the Wensleydale Rugby Club in Leyburn have brought forward their next show by a week. John Aston will now be on stage at the clubhouse from 8.30pm on Wednesday, March 13. Admission is £3.
CHEAP CHIPS: The RSPCA has announced two dates when dog owners will be offered cut price microchips for their pets. A roadshow will be at Ripon's Hugh Ripley Hall between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, March 16, as well as Knaresborough House in Knaresborough High Street at the same times on Saturday, March 30.
