YOUNGSTERS from six schools took part in the first Darlington Primary School Basketball Tournament yesterday.
The event, at the Dolphin Centre, followed six weeks of coaching provided by Darlington Borough Council.
Taking part were pupils from Whinfield junior, Heathfield primary, Red Hall primary, Mowden junior, Reid Street primary and Abbey junior schools. Whinfield Junior School won the competition, with Reid Street finishing runners-up.
The aim of the event was to raise the profile of the sport in the town, as well as to encourage youngsters to join Darlington Junior Basketball Club, which meets at the centre on Wednesdays, from 4pm to 5pm.
Entry to the club, for seven to 11-year-olds, costs £1.50.
