A POLICE OFFICER is swapping her truncheon for trainers as she prepares for a marathon effort.
PC Caroline Davies is running 35 miles a week in training with three of her colleagues at Darlington police station, before they attempt the Flora London Marathon.
PC Davies competed in the Great North Run last year, has represented County Durham at cross-country events and is a member of the Quakers Running Club, but has never taken part in a marathon.
The 20-year-old is running to raise money for the charity Children Nationwide, which carries out research into childhood illnesses such as meningitis, asthma and eczema.
She must raise £1,250 for the charity in sponsorship before she can take part in the marathon on April 14.
So far, she has raised £700 and is looking for individuals and companies to sponsor her for the remaining £550.
To sponsor PC Davies, call her on 07876 753518, or write to her at Darlington Police Office, St Cuthbert's Way, Darlington.
