A TEAM of Darlington car park wardens have been improving their customer care skills.
Eight wardens took part in a course tailored to their needs at Darlington College of Technology.
The course, designed to give them a broad introduction to customer care, included customer service, communication skills, making an impression, dealing with people with special needs, and creating a personal action plan.
They also had an introduction to NVQs, Investors in People and Welcome Management, adapted from an existing tourism course.
Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Car park wardens can often be the first point of contact for a visitor to the town. First impressions are often the most lasting, and so it is essential that the wardens are fully equipped with the skills necessary to present a positive image of Darlington.
"Alongside this, the wardens may often be involved in having to deal with a potentially difficult situation. Again, the skills learnt on this course will prove invaluable."
The course is part of the council's training and development policy.
