VILLAGERS in Castleside, Cornsay and Lanchester have been asked to consider how they can access a new European cash fund.
The Leader+ programme, which aims to improve life in rural communities in the North Pennines area, has received £2m from the European Union.
That means that community groups can apply for cash which will become available in the spring.
Successful organisations will have to match any money provided.
Jill Stephenson, senior project development officer, said the programme enables local action groups to try small scale projects to solve problems peculiar to rural areas including poor access to services such as post offices, shops, transport, health and childcare facilities to developing job and leisure opportunities.
Leader+ officer Paul Mit-chell stressed no money will be made available for several weeks. He can be emailed on n.pennines.leader cleanliness, and to be able to live
