PLANNERS have commended a Dales community for co-operating with a farmer trying to start afresh after losing his livestock to foot-and-mouth last year.
The Pratt family want to move their farmstead away from the edge of Bellerby and sell the current farm to be developed as six houses.
Some neighbours objected, but talks with the Pratts have overcome the problems.
The project was approved by Richmondshire District Council's planning committee this week.
Councillor Jane Parlour said: "It is quite refreshing to see an applicant and his neighbours talking and trying to resolve their difficulties."
The dairy operation will move to just outside the village. Officers said moving the farm will remove noise, smell and disruption from the village centre.
Conditional permission was also granted for the conversion of two barns at Bellerby's Manor House Farm if amendments overcome concern over design, drainage and tree-planting.
