THE Liberal Democrats have announced candidates for by-elections in the Middlestone Moor ward in Spennymoor.
The vacancies on Sedgefield Borough Council and Spennymoor Town Council resulted from the death of Councillor Jim Everson.
Kevin Thompson is the Lib- Dem candidate for the borough seat. He was born in Byers Green, part of the ward, and has lived in Middlestone Moor.
He is a member of the Spennymoor Town Council's focus group and is vice-chairman and treasurer of the Spennymoor Liberal-Democrats branch.
The issues on which he will contest the seat are the 12.5 per cent increase in council tax, the £1.75 a week rent increase and high manufacturing job losses.
The Lib Dem candidate for the town council seat is Martin Jones, secretary of the Spennymoor Liberal-Democrats and the party's local environmental spokesman.
The Labour Party candidates for the seats are Myra Smith for the borough council and Christine Kennedy for the town council.
Both by-elections will be held on Thursday, March 21
