A CHEF has devised a menu with a touch of panache for the launch of the latest model of a motoring icon.
North-East motor dealer Reg Vardy challenged chefs at many of the region's leading hotels and restaurants to come up with cuisine with a sense of style to mark the arrival of the new Jaguar X-Type, next week.
David Laird, chef de partie at Knight's Restaurant at King's Lodge Hotel, Durham, responded by cooking up a feast fit for a king.
Hotel manager Roger Crozier was so impressed that he added it to the restaurant menu for next weekend, when one of the new cars will be on display at the King's Lodge, in Flass Vale.
"David has worked in a sporting field previously, at restaurants linked to some of the top Scottish golf courses, and he has come up with a suitably sporty, but stylish menu," he said.
The menu comprises asparagus panacotta with woodland mushrooms and a peppercorn tuille, fillet of Scottish beef with garlic sorbise, oxtail brandade and pommes carlos, with a trio of luxury chocolate desserts, accompanied by a white chocolate sorbet.
