ORGANISERS of Barnard Castle Meet have been given permission to use the town's Scar Top for the annual fair.
The event will see the crowning of the Meet Queen on June 1, with celebrations to tie in with the Queen's golden jubilee celebrations.
The Meet celebrations, which had to be cancelled last year because of the foot-and-mouth epidemic, will take place between May 31 and June 3, with a road run and fun run on May 26.
Members of Teesdale District Council's community services committee also agreed to a road closure order between 1pm and 3pm for the annual Meet procession on Monday, June 3.
The roads involved are the B6278 Harmire Road, from the Glaxo car park to its junction with the A67, the entire length of Galgate, the Horsemarket, Market Place and The Bank, and the C44 Newgate, as far as Parsons Lonnen.
Members of the committee also gave their consent for the Meet committee to use the Demesnes from June 1 to 4, and agreed that a road closure order should be made for the 10km Meet run and fun run on May 26, between 9am and 2pm.
