Olympic Gold triple jumper Jonathan Edwards has been presented with another accolade for his collection - Honorary Freeman of the City of Newcastle.
In a ceremony at the city's Civic Centre, Mr Edwards joined the club which includes Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer and former South African president Nelson Mandela.
Mr Edwards, who moved to Newcastle 15 years ago, said: "This part of the world which was completely foreign to me has become my home, and to be recognised in this way by the city of Newcastle is a great honour."
The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Mary Carr, said it was wonderful to be able to have Jonathan in the city.
Mr Edwards, who took gold in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, was joined by his wife, their two sons, and his parents.
