Mandale Harriers
Elaine Smithy, now with Sale Harriers, clinched the bronze medal in the AAA I-20 championship long jump in Birmingham. She set an indoors personal best of 5.74m just 16cm behind the winner. Smith opted for the AAA championship rather than the British Universities championships which was won with an inferior distance.
Suote Nyananyo, last season's AAA Under-17 hurdles silver medallist, made his debut in the U20 long jump clearing 6.47m for tenth place while his Mandale team mate John Baines reached the semi-finals recording a best time of 7.33m.
