Staff at one of the region's call centres are taking part in an unusual scheme to keep calm at work, using aromatherapy.
About 70 staff at Orange, in Darlington, are to deal with callers armed with scented oils.
Workers will also receive an aroma stone which can be left on their desk while they work.
"Aromatherapy is well known for its invigorating, stimulating, calming and relaxing effects," said Karen Ingham, head of the communications centre.
"It is also believed to stimulate the body's own restorative powers and is especially effective for relieving stress.
"Working in a communications centre can be stressful at times and we work to minimise this by creating a supportive environment."
