TEACHERS from the North-East were given the opportunity to find out more about a micro-electronics project yesterday.
Schools from the boroughs of Redcar and Cleveland, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Stockton are involved in the project and staff got together at Steel House, Redcar, east Cleveland, yesterday to hear more about the scheme.
The schools which are successful in the project will be provided with free teacher training and equipment which will let their students develop advanced technology projects, using dedicated micro-controllers.
Organisers from Education Business Link Tees Valley, Corus and AES say it is the type of project which schools elsewhere can only dream about.
Project manager Joe Telford said: "We hope it will add to raising achievement with our local youngsters and encourage some of them to think about long-term high-tech careers."
