Villagers called to assembly
Sedgefield villagers can tell town, borough and county councillors what they think of their stewardship over the year at the annual assembly in the parish hall on Monday, at 7pm.
Likely topics are the continuing problems of travellers, rubbish, rowdy teenagers in Beacon Lane, and village parking.
ROAD WORKS: There will be restrictions on the A167 Croft Bridge road in Darlington from tomorrow, for a week, while the road is resurfaced. There will be traffic lights and convoy systems operating during the work.
CHOIR CONCERT: The Darlington and District Organists and Choirmasters Association is hosting a concert tonight, at 7.30pm. The group's entertainment section, Two's Company, will perform at St John's Church, Darlington, accompanied by the president of the association, Caroline Hodgson. Tickets are £3 and proceeds will be divided between the church and the association.
HOSPICE RAFFLE: A raffle is being organised by the Art Shop in Darlington to raise money for the town's St Teresa's Hospice. Ian Hughes, from the shop, has organised the raffle, which features prizes including art materials and gift vouchers. Mr Hughes is also running the London Marathon to raise money for the hospice. Tickets for the raffle can be bought from the shop in Bondgate, or at St Teresa's Hospice, before April 22.
CHORUS LINE: Pupils at Polam Hall School, Darlington, are staging the musical A Chorus Line at the schools' Liddiard Theatre from next Thursday to Saturday. Tickets are available on (01325) 463383.
LEEK SHOW: The Busters Leek Club, in Yarm Road, Darlington, is holding its fifth annual greenhouse show on Sunday. Benching is from 7.30am to 9am, and entry is £2 per exhibit. Show entry time is noon, and there is no charge. For information call (01325) 261829.
ANNUAL MEETING: The annual meeting of Sedgefield Local History Society, held in Ceddesfeld Hall, heard satisfactory reports from officials. The committee was re-elected, with the addition of Mary Thorpe. At the March meeting, Martin Roberts gave a talk on traditional buildings in the North East. Members are planning to hold a dinner in June to mark the society's 15th anniversary.
TABLE SALE: Help the Aged has organised a table-top sale at Middridge Village Hall next Saturday, from 9am to noon. For details call (01325) 313924.
BRANCH LINES: Old pictures of the railway line from Darlington to Bishop Auckland and Weardale are included in an exhibition being staged by the Weardale Railway and the Heritage Line in Wolsingham Library, in the Town Hall, during March. The display will visit other venues in the next few months, starting with Bishop Auckland Town Hall on April 6, Shildon Library in May and Crook Library from June 10 to 28.
