SICK youngsters have joined a campaign to dissuade people from smoking.

Patients on the children's wards at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, have designed posters for National No Smoking Day, which is next week.

The posters will be displayed around hospital buildings to push home the no smoking message to staff, patients and visitors.

Julie Martin, spokeswoman for the smoking cessation service, said: "We would like to thank all the children for their hard work and effort in designing the posters. The judges will have a very difficult task in choosing the winners as all the posters are of a very high standard."

The young artists received a visit from Middlesbrough Football Club mascot Roary the Lion, yesterday. Each child will receive a gift and those judged winners of the most effective posters will get a signed football.
