DETAILS of a new library scheme for Stanley have been unveiled.
Last year, The Northern Echo revealed that Durham County Council wanted to build a library at the old Stanley Board School, in Front Street.
Now, a council spokesman has said the authority envisages a multi-agency centre that could include health services and council facilities.
The authority said plans to move from the present building, in High Street, were being considered following a feasibility study, but no time limit had been set.
l Durham County Council has confirmed that there are no plans to close South Moor library.
County councillor David Marshall said fears for the library's future were raised after it was mentioned as a possible area to cut back on during budget meetings, before the council tax was set, but he had been assured the idea had been shelved.
A council spokesman confirmed the library was safe
