Children run to thank mothers
EVERY mum was a winner yesterday. About 200 children took part in Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's first Junior Fun Run, which was over a two mile course. Every child crossing the finishing line at the Kirkleatham showfield, Redcar, was presented with a T-shirt, a goodie bag - and a daffodil for their mum, for Mother's Day.
TUNING UP: Hartlepool Male Voice Choir will perform at the town hall on Thursday to raise money for the Mayor's Charity Appeal. Funds raised will go to the mayor's nominated charities - Hartlepool Special Needs Group and Hartlepool Animal Welfare and Rescue. The mayor, Councillor Doug Ferriday, said: "The Hartlepool Male Voice Choir, formerly known as the Reg Guy Singers, are extremely entertaining and I'm sure its going to be a great night." The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £4 (£3.50 concessions) and can be obtained from the Hartlepool Tourist Information Centre, Church Square, or at the door. CHURCH MEETING: Medium Stan Jones is holding an evening of clairvoyance at Middlesbrough Spiritualist Church, Borough Road, on Thursday, from 7pm. Tickets are £3 each and are available at the church before and after services or by calling (01642) 318484. Proceeds will go to the Northern District Council of the Spiritualists National Union to assist them in the work they do in support of and on behalf of churches throughout the area.
CACTI INSIGHT: The Teesside branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society holds its monthly meeting at the Settlement Community Centre, St Paul's Road, off Union Street, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday, at 7pm. Speaker David Rushforth will give a talk about the variety of cacti to be found in Mexico. New members are welcome.
QUIZ NIGHT: Cancer Research UK is holding a quiz night with supper at Guisborough Rugby Club on Wednesday, from 8pm. Tickets are £5 and are available on (01287) 34571 or (01642) 481003.
COFFEE TIME: A coffee afternoon will be held at Eston Grange Methodist Church, Fabian Road, Eston, between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow. Tickets are 50p. The event includes a chocolate tombola, cake stall and raffle
