A TAXI driver who was chosen by National Lottery operator Camelot for a publicity drive loves his job so much he would not give it up - even if he was a millionaire.

The only concession Jeff Wilson would make would be to trade in his black cab for a Rolls Royce, allowing his customers to travel in style.

One of Jeff's regular customers, a 93-year-old woman, gets him to read her mail to her because her eyesight is failing.

He said his day is made when one of his fares tells him she feels like a queen riding in the back of his cab.

"You have to like driving and enjoy meeting people in this job," he said. "I think a big part of life is being able to make someone else's day."

Dave Stroyd, operator with Jeff's employer, Starline, said: "He is very dedicated and looks after his customers. He is our biggest taker on the taxis. He does a lot of work and hardly stops to even have a cup of tea."

Jeff was used by Camelot for a regional launch of the National Lottery Instants scratch card - Cash For Life - which offers a top prize of £2,000 a month, every month, for the rest of the winner's life.

A survey commissioned by Camelot found that 34 per cent of people in the North-East, when asked how they would spend the money, said they would fill their wardrobes with fashion garments, compared with 25 per cent in the UK as a whole.

Overall, most people in the region would spend their winnings on luxury holidays or travel.
