BOWEY Construction has become the first mid-tier building contractor in the UK to achieve BS ISO 14001 accreditation for its environmental management systems.
The accreditation comes as a result of the company's "waste-not, want-not" policy in relation to environmental awareness. Bowey's environmental manager, Jeff Charlon, said the award took account of all environmental factors in its operations.
"For instance, it's not just about using timber from renewable sources, it even concerns the ordering process.
"You must be careful not to over-order materials for contracts, and if there is excess, you must be able to demonstrate your process for careful disposal with regard to the environment and sustainability."
