Providing help for carers
A MENTAL awareness event is being held in Barnard Castle to give advice and support to carers in the dales. Teesdale Carers Centre and Wear Valley Carers will be holding the support session on Thursday. The event will also feature a talk by Debby Oxberry, of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship, who will be joined by author Edna Hunneysett. The session takes place between 2pm and 5pm at Wear Valley Carers Centre, in Edgar Grove, Bishop Auckland. Anyone wanting to attend who needs transport or care relief is asked to contact (01388) 451400.
COUNCIL MEETING: A meeting of Great Aycliffe Town Council will be held at the council offices, School Aycliffe Lane, Newton Aycliffe, tomorrow, at 7.15pm.
CHURCH GUEST: Sedgefield St Edmund's Parish Church will have a guest preacher during part of Holy Week. The Reverend Bill Broad has agreed to preach on Maundy Thursday evening and Good Friday.
PARISH REVIEW: An invitation has gone out to Sedgefield parishioners to a parish review to be held in Sedgefield Primary School, Rectory Row, on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm.
FRIENDS' OUTING: Sedgefield Friends of St Edmund's church, held an outing to York. Judith Edgoose acted as guide for a visit to the Minster and other places of interest.
DANCE CLASSES: Country and Western line dancing classes will be held every Thursday, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, at Bishop Barrington School, Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland. For further information, contact (01388) 609717.
ANNUAL MEETING: Teesdale committee Cancer Research Campaign will hold its annual meeting, at 7pm, today. The meeting will be held at Silver Birches, Moor Road, Cotherstone.
QUIZ NIGHT: A Four Seasons quiz will be held at Gainford Village Hall, at 7.30pm, tomorrow, in aid of the Teesdale fundraising committee for the Children's Society. Tickets cost £3, and includes a glass of wine. For tickets or further details contact the Reverend David Jones, on (01833) 660237.
SNAP TO IT: Teesdale Photographic Society will be meeting in the Masonic Hall, Middleton-in-Teesdale, at 7.30pm, on Thursday. Colin Bainbridge will present slides of Teesdale. Admission is £1 for visitors.
ART EXHIBITIONS: An art group will begin the first of two consecutive exhibitions in Darlington next week. The Studio Group will open the first exhibition of members' paintings at Darlington Arts Centre, in Vane Terrace, on Saturday, March 23. The first set of paintings will be on show until May 7. The second exhibition will run until June 24.
