TWO youngsters from Hartlepool have been chosen to carry the Queen's baton through the town in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.
Jonathon Osborne and Paul Mann, both 15, have been attending the Reach for Success basketball project designed to get youngsters to channel their energy in a positive way.
Paul is battling back after an accident, which resulted in him having to have a leg amputated.
Jonathon's approach to life has changed dramatically since he joined the project.
The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay began from Buckingham Palace yesterday and for the next 86 days will take place in 21 commonwealth countries before returning to the UK on June 6.
Jonathon and Paul will carry the baton through Hartlepool on July 7.
Glynis Hansen, sports development officer with Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "We thought it was appropriate for Jonathon and Paul to represent Hartlepool because they have succeeded against difficult circumstances when it would have been much easier to give in.
"Both are active members of the Reach for Success basketball project and show a tremendous amount of enthusiasm."
If Paul can't manage the baton relay using his artificial leg, he will complete it in his wheelchair.
