POLICE are asking for help to trace three men who attacked a teenager walking alone.
The incident happened at about 9.30pm on Saturday, February 23, when the 18-year-old, who was walking near the subway to the Greystones roundabout, near Redcar, east Cleveland, was approached by the group of men.
One of them asked for a light for a cigarette before the three began to attack him. The trio then fled, leaving the teenager with severe bruising and a black eye. He was treated at Middlesbrough General Hospital.
The man who asked for the light was described as aged 19 or 20, about 6ft, with short hair and a thin face.
PC Simon Whitlock, who is investigating the attack, said: "This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on a man on his own. I am hoping someone may have information that may assist my inquiries."
