AN EVENING to celebrate the achievements of young people has gained the support of the Learning and Skills Council.
The training group has become the main sponsor of the Positive Young People awards, which are taking place in Darlington on Monday, March 25.
The awards, supported by The Northern Echo, will be presented at Darlington' s Civic Theatre. They celebrate achievements in all aspects of life.
A spokesman for the Learning and Skills Council said: "Young people are our future. This event recognises the achievements and successes of young people, by acknowledging the contribution they make to the local area.
"The Learning and Skills Council will raise the aspirations of young people.
"Being involved in this event gives the Learning and Skills Council the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to young people."
The award ceremony will include performances by young members of the Stagecoach Theatre group.
The event has also received the backing of Masterfoods, which will be producing gift bags for all the young people involved in the evening.
A spokesman said: "These awards recognise young talented individuals who are at the heart of the UK's present and future.
"We would like to congratulate all those who take part and we wish them every success in the future."
