NORTH-EAST games fanatics will be the first in the country to get their hands on the most powerful console on the market - Microsoft's Xbox.
Shops across the region will be hosting late-night gaming parties tonight to mark the machine's launch.
Independent video games specialist Chips will be opening the doors of its Middlesbrough store at 11.59pm so customers can collect their Xbox as soon as it is officially launched in the UK - on the stroke of midnight.
The Borough Road store has been decorated for the occasion and fans can expect to pick up free goodies, as well as being able to buy the console, games and accessories.
Chips joint managing director Nik Agar said: "Many of our regular customers have been eagerly awaiting the Xbox and can't wait to get their hands on one. We thought it would be a good idea to open our Middlesbrough store, so they can be the first in the country to own one."
People who pre-ordered a console at Chips have been invited to attend the event this evening, but if they unable to get there, their machine will be sent to their regular store and will be ready for collection at 9.30am tomorrow.
Electronics Boutique, in Stockton, will also be opening its doors at midnight tonight. The store, in Wellington Square, will be open until 1am.
Dixons store, in Northumberland Street, Newcastle, will also open at midnight.
Xbox will be available from other retailers, including Electronics Boutique in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, and Dixons in Middlesbrough and Darlington, from 8am on Thursday.
