Appeal after guitars stolen
Rare guitars, including a Rickenbacker worth £2,000, have been stolen from a house in the Durham Road area of Leadgate, near Consett. Burglars also took the black case the Rickenbacker was in, an Eko acoustic guitar with a light brown finish worth £1,500 and a Vaux Cambridge guitar worth £300. The raiders went on to strip the home and in total took property worth £7,000 between the evening of Saturday, March 2, and the evening of Sunday, March 3. CELEBRITY CONCERT: The Derwentside Singers will present a celebrity concert at the Empire Theatre, Consett, on Saturday, April 13, at 7pm. Guest artists include baritone Graeme Danby and the Houghton Area Youth Band. Tickets cost £4. Call (01207) 509600 or (01207) 504723 to book.
TRADE FAIR: Students from more than 20 European countries will converge on the MetroCentre on Sunday for the UK's largest Young Enterprise European Trade Fair. They will promote and market their own products, including jewellery, candles, textiles and computer creations.
COFFEE MORNING: Durham Indoor Bowling Club, at Pity Me, is holding a spring coffee morning from 9.30am on Saturday. It will include a variety of stalls, and entrance costs 50p, including a cup of coffee.
ADVICE SESSIONS: Durham Citizens Advice Bureau is holding outreach advice sessions next week at Kelloe Community Association between 11am and noon on Monday; at New Brancepeth Village Hall between 11am and noon on Tuesday; at Ushaw Moor Community House on Wednesday, between 10 and 11am; and at Cassop Community Centre on Thursday from 1.30 to 2.30pm.
COASTAL VIEWS: Terry Jobling, one of the founders of Pittington Photography Club, will give a slide show called The Durham Coast when the club meets on Monday at 7.30pm in Pittington Village Hall. New members are welcome to attend.
ROCK NIGHTS: Raising Cane will be performing in the Stable Bar at the Beamish Mary Inn, No Place, near Stanley, on Saturday followed on Thursday, March 21, by the Lounge Lizards. Doors open for both gigs at about 8.30pm and there is a cover charge.
DONOR SESSIONS: Blood donor sessions will be held on Friday in the community centre, Newbiggin Lane, Front Street, Lanchester, between 3pm and 7pm, and in the community centre, Irish Crescent, Ouston, between 2.30pm and 6.45pm.
GALA DATE: Eurovision Song Contest winning pop band Bucks Fizz will perform at Durham's Gala Theatre on Sunday at 7.30pm with special guest Stu Francis. Tickets cost £10 and £12.50 and are available from the box office on 0191-332 4041.
