A Teesside girls school has been praised by inspectors in a report.

The report on Teesside Preparatory and High School, in Eaglescliffe, found that "the overall standard of teaching was good or very good".

A team of eight from the Independent Schools Inspectorate visited the private school in November.

Inspectors said: "The level of academic attainment is high throughout the school, and pupils are well motivated, and display a positive attitude to their studies.

"They enjoy good relationships with each other and with their teachers."

During the inspection, each school department was visited by inspectors who observed a total of 146 lessons during the week. They also visited staff and school council meetings, and oversaw pupils' extra curricular activities.

Malcolm Smith, chairman of the school governors, said: "The report recognises the contribution to the school's success made by the headmistress and the staff, who show a strong commitment to the school's development."
