Darlington Football Club has repeated its warning to businesses that it has nothing to do with a proposed town map.
Club official Luke Raine says several traders have contacted him after being approached by someone selling advertising space on a folding map of Darlington town centre.
Traders say they have been told the map has the official backing of the club and that copies will be placed on each of the 25,000 seats at Darlington's new stadium when it opens.
Mr Raine has contacted the town's Chamber of Trade and businesses in the Cornmill Shopping Centre to make them aware of the situation.
He urged anyone who is approached to contact him at the club.
He said: "This person has no connection with Darlington Football Club. If anybody makes an approach, I would like them to contact me while they are on the premises, not a week later, because I can't do anything about it then.
"I don't want people getting ripped off."
