A JUDO academy is celebrating after success at a major event.
East Durham and Houghall Community College's Judo Academy travelled to Goole, in Yorkshire, for the Under-18 Open Championships, on Sunday.
Academy member Colin Francis, 17, a first Dan black belt from Trimdon, took gold in the under 55kg category, and Eddie Mann, 16, from Scarborough, won silver in the under 50kg category, despite still being ranked a junior.
The academy is also celebrating the success of previous World Cup silver medallist Ben Quilter, who has been awarded a place on the world class performance programme for judo.
Ben, 20, from Brighton, has travelled the world and won several medals since joining the academy, and his award is based on his top ranking in the country.
College principal Ian Prescott said: "I'm thrilled at the success of the academy as a whole unit.
"It is achieving phenomenal success in such a short time.
